This is a general overview of the year sports program at IISA. A more detailed
page that applies to Grades 6 - 8 is on a separate web page that is still under
construction. We will also post detailed information about each of the
tournaments.
IISA Athletics follows a classic sport season model. Similar
models are followed by most international schools in this region including over
20 schools that are members of METS (Middle Eastern Triangle of Sports) and
MESAC (Middle Eastern South Asian Conference). Our Athletics program is
affiliated with METS, which is a conference that offers regional tournaments
that include international schools that have the similar athletics philosophy.
Our fall season includes teams in soccer and swimming. In soccer, our teams
undergo intense training two to three times a week; teams include U14 boys and
girls, U16 Boys, and U18 Boys and Girls. In METS our U14 will be traveling to
Beirut, where they will be hosted by International College Beirut from November
24 to November 27. U16 Boys will be traveling to Amman this year for our
regional group championship. Our U18 teams will also participate in the 9th
annual co-hosted tournament held at ACS and IC. This event from December 7-11 is
under the umbrella of the METS international schools group.
Swimming for Grade 6 – 12 students starts up as soon as the
year starts, Al Basel pool is our venue and students compete locally against
schools and clubs in Aleppo, the main competition will be held on Friday,
October 14.
The winter/spring season from January onwards will include basketball as a full
season with local and international competitions, and will also include
Track and Field, Badminton, Volleyball, Tennis Club, and Chess. (Detailed
information will be posted on the IISA Athletics Website).
** Please note: There is a standing expectation among the IISA coaching
staff that players attend all practices. Students are expected to complete their
school work, meet personal obligations and also meet team obligations without
missing practice time. Even players who are injured are expected to attend
practices. Practices may take place 3-5 times per week including matches.
Attendance is checked at each session, players are kept on notice and those who
miss 3 or more practices are removed from the team.
Should you have any questions, please refer to the Activities and Athletic
Handbook that is posted on IISA website.
We are hoping for a year full of rewarding sport experiences.
